The Medicine Wheel teaches the Four Seasons of Growth. In nature, one may take example from the Oak Tree.
SPRING: In Spring, new ideas and implementations of goals and visions are in order. The Tree experiences sap in its veins and then buds come out soon thereafter. The conscious mind gets new thoughts... similarly to the tree's cycle. New ideas, attitudes, changes... and the world and our environment really feels fresh.
SUMMER. in the Summer, the buds from Spring mature and and they grow and the tree takes SHAPE. The leaves at FULL represent the Tree coming into its identity. The Tree now knows who it is and why and where its going. For Humans, the Summer cycle represents a life taking on its ORDER. Relationships, jobs, careers, values. The Being becomes comfortable with the self and life is GREAT.
FALL. Just when the Oak Tree thought it could not get better...it turns colors and produces acorns for harvest. The Tree experiences the rewards of the Spring planting! For humans, this season is also Great! All is Blessed in the Fall Season and the Native Prayer is for this to never end
WINTER: Experiencing the loss of leaves. The Oak tree observes its surroundings and may lament its loss of identity. The human being also experiences a similar loss of identity. Three Q's: Who AM I? Why Am I? and Where AM I going? SEASON OF REFLECTION & RENEWAL. Humans must release the old leaves as current identity, skillsets, attitudes, habits, and beliefs. This LETTING GO in Nature's Way of Clearing for New Spring.
The Winter may bring a sense of remorse and we might think that insanity has re-entered our lives. Our relationships may flatten out, our jobs too complex, a withdrawal from life may occur. We must know that Winter is very constructive as a time period...Nature making sure that we grow actually! We are intended by this book to grow in Harmony with our seasons. They are often different than the seasons in physicality. Can be spring for one while outside is snowing, for example. Each meditation from the book is a SAYING FROM AN ELDER. It is suggested that it is followed by a thought for the day and intent for the day. The Author describes the means with which we may make change in our lives...and it is by way of CLEAR INTENT. INTENT-WILL-BEING-THINKING-ACTION-RESULTS. A result has been caused by a action, all actions have been caused by our thought.
Our "thinking" may be viewed as an amalgam as well as our selves. Humans accumulate experience that provide their active fundamental worldview in the form of habits, attitudes, and related beliefs. There are two drives in Humans...Great Spirit's Will and Self Will. The transformation of the being begins when the life one is leading is returned to its Source ...Great Spirit's Will. The RED ROAD is here... with GREAT SPIRIT'S LAWS, VALUES, & PRINCIPLES. [Breathes Deeply]. Daily Prayer and Intent formation with Moon Cycle alignment (Waning/Waxing).
Cheering ourselves as a Team ... Praying together...Rooting for One Another as One, The CIRCLE forms ...around and with EVERYTHING. ~ Wallace Black Elk ~ Sioux ~
Henry Quick Bear, Lakota : We have "wandered away from our teachings..." and we must "concentrate on our Teachings" and not become "sidetracked." The Elders always remind to KNOW THE CULTURE and to get back on track with The Teachings when we are lost. Harmony is The Way of Life. Laws and Principles of Great Spirit . Life as in a good life...a happy life. Many have not been exposed to the true cultural ways and hence, fall off track easily, and forget to Live well. IMPROVINNG RELATIONSHIPS. TREATING OUR CHILDREN WITH HONOR, ... Being Respectful of Our Elders... living the Old Teachings again. (Coyhis, 2007).
The Manner of our Walk thru this Life is each's most important RESPONSIBILITY. We can Practice each Sunrise and Recall this each Sunrise. A Vision of Great Spirit's Will ... may be carried by each on each day and all days. Asking Great Sprit for Direction. After daily practice for some time, an Unquestionable Vision arrives. Each has their own Responsibility to this. This brings Great Joy and Peace of Mind for Warriors. My focus today will be ...Creator's Will
The All is actually simple. We are the ones conducting the confusion by way of complexity.

ELDERSPEAK: Fool's Crow, Lakota : "The One who wishes to be a true medicine person must be a person of faith, and they can only work successfully with those who also have faith." (Coyhis, 2007) Medicine People are spiritual beings...who walk the Red Road... by their own commitment and dedication. They endure sacrifice and seek "The Way of Creator" ... "FineAlly" The GrandFathers teach them of power, proper uses of medicine, and about LAWS. Then do MEDICINE PEOPLE develop great Faith ... and all must also have faith if to receive these benefits. We must want to be helped...and because MEDICINE PEOPLE know how to help... that is just the one half of the equation! The other half is UP TO EVERYONE. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "My Creator, faith is belief without evidence. Today, give me the faith. Let me trust that You are running my life. Let me know You are in charge of all thing. Let my mind not wander; let me stand strong on Your Path today."

(Coyhis, 2007) With Creator in our Lives... we are everything...without Creator, we are nothing. When Creator is in our life, suddenly the impossible is possible, the extraordinary becomes ordinary, things start happening that didn't used to, Talents appear within us suddenly, we blossom ... and resources appear. Help in the form of guidance and direction arrives... we become HAPPY... we have PEACE OF MIND and confidence. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "Oh Great Spirit, today I want You in my life. The days that I know you are with me are the days that are perfect. Let me be joyful today."
ELDERSPEAK: Fools Crow, Lakota. "Believing people can soar beyond ordinary life." (Coyhis, 2007) We are created by God to be people of Vision. We set goals and we see. We create within ourselves a VISION ... and as we hold that ... in our mind...it comes to pass in our "reality." We see ourselves educated, then teachers and schools show up in our lives. If we have pictured a positive Spiritual person to be in our lives, that type of person will show up. HOW BIG CAN OUR DREAMS BE? GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "Great Spirit, let my visions today be Your vision. Put within me a vision of the being You would have me be. Then help me to keep the vision in my mind."
ELDERSPEAK: Fool's Crow, Lakota : "We are called to become hollow bones for our people and anyone else we can help, and we are not supposed to seek power for our personal use and honor." (Coyhis, 2007) In order to use well powers given, powers bestowed...we must become a HOLLOW BONE. We must PREPARE ourselves to become a CHANNEL. Our channel MUST BE CLEAN before we can use POWERS BESTOWED WELL. We must be free from RESENTMENT, GUILT, SHAME, ANGER, SELF PITY, AND FEAR. When if these things are in us... we cannot be HOLLOW BONES... as they BLOCK us from our ture powers bestowed. The CLEANER we are ... the more power we can move... we must be a HOLLOW BONE so that CREATOR can flow through us with GREAT SPIRIT's intention. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "My Creator, remove from me today all resentment, anger, fear, guilt, and selfishness. Do not let my weaknesses stand in the way of my busefulness to YOU. Make me a HOLLOW BONE so your Power can flow through me."

(Coyhis, 2007) Each of the four directions has special powers. These powers of Grandfathers are there to help us. To call upon the power that we need, we stand in the middle ...face each direction...and Honor All Forms of Life in each direction. To the East, we honor 2 legged, 4 legged, winged, plants nation, and the animals. We repeat this for each direction. This gives us centering. Then we can call the Helpers. Elder Coyhis here then refers to the cliche statement from human history... "When the student is ready, the teacher appears..." We have need of recall as to HOW TO 'GET QUIET" first ... we do this by Honoring and Praying to the Four Directions. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "Grandfathers from the four directiions, come to me today with Your powers. Give me Your gifts so I can serve the people."
ELDERSPEAK: Fool's Crow, Lakota "What could be greater than to be Wakan Tanka's mind, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, arms, hands, legs, and feet here on earth." (Coyhis, 2007) For Creator to do Creator's Work on Earth, Creator uses the human being. We are guided through our senses and our bodies and we are Instruments of The Creator...and Creator's Keepers of the earth, our brothers, the children, and we Respect Creator's Creations. We treat also ourselves well in our Respect of Creator as well doing Respectful things and walking The Sacred Path and having Good Thoughts. WE do the things that Creator would have us do and we do not do the things that Creator would not have us do... and in this way, Honor The Creator in and with each step. We are Honored to Be Instruments of Creator as Human Beings Being Human ...and are honored by The Presence, care, and Guidance of Creator and Creator's Wonders. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "Oh Great Spirit, let me appreciate the role you have given me. Let my sense be sharp to hear your Voice. Keep my mind clean so that I can do the things you would have me do."
ELDERSPEAK: Joe Coyhis, Stockbridge-Munsee: "Whenever you take anythhing from the earth, remember to leave an offering." (Coyhis, 2007) We need to look at Nature and its inhabitants as BROTHERS & SISTERS. When we take a plant into serivice, we can offer tobacco as an Offering of Thanks. We ask the plants for permissions and who are delighted to be of Service. It is their purpose as well after all. Each knows they carry a special medicine that fits into the continuation of the cycle of Life. We must always be Grateful to Our Brothers and Sisters. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "Creator, I thank You for the opportunity of life."
ELDERSPEAK: Chief Oren Lyons, Onondaga: "We forget so we consider ourselves superior. But we are, after all, a mere part of the creation and we must consider to understand where we are and we stand somewhere between the mountain and the ant. Somewhere and only there is a part and parcel of the cration." (Coyhis, 2007) Every human being being human gathers information form that CENTER OF A CIRCLE. If we are careless, we can believe we are that center. Self centeredness is easy to fall into ...and thence comes superiority and a sense of being above others... but we are just one part of the "great whole." The universe is all connected and each part has a special mission. It is by design within us ... to Honor and Respect ...each and every "part" of The Great Whole. We are neither below or above anything and anyone... there is no need to rule anything... but simply to LIVE IN HONOR and HARMONY with the system. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER FOR THE DAY: "My Creator, help me to view and conduct myself in a manner of respect, dignity, and honor to all Creation. Let me see You in all things."
ELDERSPEAK: Barney Bush, Shawnee: "Words hypnotize and deceive everyone at one time or another, but these hypnotic words cannot last long in the hearts of true warriors." (Coyhis, 2007) We are a part of an "interconnected system," where WORDS on their own are empty, but only are they empowered by Spirit and Intention. At the atom's center, we are connected... and this place is the AIR and the body. The CENTER OF THE AIR and the CENTER OF OUR BODY SYSTEM are as One. I AM connected to YOU, and YOU are connected to me ...at our collective CENTER. If I have words without meaning, you can feel this ...in your CENTER. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER FOR THE DAY: "Great Spirit, help me make my word good. Let me do the things I say I will, and let me say the things I will do and do it."
ELDERSPEAK: Mathew King, Lakota: " I'm an Indian. I'm one of God's children." (Coyhis, 2007) "My Creator," let us recall our Purpose here on Mother Earth. Let me "look into my own eyes and see the Beauty You have Created." Let me have good thoughts, and let me not know myself not by my skin color... but my Heart's evocations... to think just the things that you intend. Let us watch Nature and seek Harmony ...be Harmonious. Let us walk in Prayer ... and speak with You constantely throughout each day. To be "Indian is to act and and to walk in a Sacred Way." GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "Today, let me think in beauty, let me walk in beauty, let me pray in beauty."
ELDERSPEAK: "If I destroy you, I destroy myself. If I honor you, I honor myself." Hunbatz Man, Mayan. (Coyhis, 2007) When we need Love the most is when we desrve it the least perhaps. When we secrete harmful thoughts of others, we take bad feelings within. Grudge, resentment ... against our Brothers and Sisters ... we are enslaved to that person until we let it go. We can recall to look upon our siblings in a "SACRED MANNER." We can ask for today to think as a Warrior ... with good thoughts of others. We can talk with Great Spirit when we're upset. Gertting right with that talk ...makes it impossible to be out of Harmony with others. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER OF THE DAY: "My Creator, take my hand and guide me through today."

When moving through the forest, we can recall that all of nature is our friend, has purpose, participates in the life cycle... communicates, talks, listens, forgives, respects, loves, lives in harmony, follows the law, is balance, ... and is ALIVE & BEAUTIFUL... SHE IS OUR FRIEND. GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER FOR THE DAY: "Great Spirit, let me honor and respect the forest and all the life it contains..."

Help me not to do those things that seek attention or approval from others. I AM only accountable to "You, Oh Great Spirit!," You will tell me thwe things I need to knmow. Let me learn the lessons from the Elders. Let me teach the children by example. Today, let me walk the talk. [SUPERMOON rising...].
